[waves] I'm new to the fandom, so I imagine this has been discussed before, but I've not found the posts or forums for it yet. Given that Marvel and DC obviously allowed mention of their properties in Queer as Folk, and that Michael even refers Ben to Mystique and Destiny as a couple when he's giving Ben the book tour in early second season, why do they never acknowledge the existence of characters like Northstar (Alpha Flight, Marvel's first out gay superhero, came out in 1992), or Rainmaker (Gen13, Image Comics/Wildstorm imprint, 1993)?
Is it specifically the X-ratedness of Rage that's supposed to make it special, even though Captain Astro was presumably PG? Again on a meta-level I assume it's because the show writers didn't do the research, but given that Michael's supposed to be such an expert on comics it seems like a serious omission to not acknowledge the growing numbers of out superheros already in mainstream comics by 2002. [Edited to add: Apollo and Midnighter, from The Authority (DC/Wildstorm). I hadn't realized that book was from 1999!] /this post brought to you by the Young Avengers Wiccan and Hulkling (2005)... :: +Memory :: Share :: 1 reply :: Reply Summary: A fluffy scene in the Kinney-Taylor household.
